How to set up Tap-To-Contact

Add a button to your popup that lets shoppers save your store's contact card, so your texts come from a number they recognize.

Tap-To-Contact adds a button to your popup that saves your store's contact card to a shopper's phone. The card holds your store name, your SMS sending number, your homepage, and your logo. Once a shopper saves it, your texts show up under your store's name instead of an unknown number.

Why use Tap-To-Contact?

On iPhones with iOS 26 or later, shoppers can turn on Screen Unknown Senders. Texts from numbers that aren't in their contacts then go to a separate Unknown Senders list, without notifications. When a shopper saves your contact card, your number is in their contacts, so your texts land in their main conversation list.

It also builds trust. Shoppers see your store name and logo on every text, which makes your messages easier to recognize.

Set up your contact card

You have one contact card for your whole store. Set it up once, and every Tap-To-Contact button uses it.

In Alia:

  1. Go to Settings → General → Contact card.

  2. In Name, enter your store name the way you want it saved in shoppers' contacts.

  3. In Phone, enter your SMS sending number with the country code, for example +15551234567.

  4. Optional: In Homepage, enter your store's URL.

  5. Optional: Under Logo, upload your logo. It shows as the contact's photo.

  6. Save your changes.

Name and Phone are required. You can also fill in the card from the popup editor while you add the button.

Add a Tap-To-Contact button to your popup

In the popup editor:

  1. In the step bar, select the step where you want the button. Your reward screen, right after signup, works best.

  2. In the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas, select Plain button, then select where you want it on the step.

  3. In the Button section of the right sidebar, change the button label to something like "Save our contact."

  4. In the Actions section, change the Go to step action to Show contact card.

  5. If you haven't set up your contact card yet, select Edit, fill in the card, and select Save.

  6. Select Publish to push the change to your live popup.

💡Note: Editing the contact card from any popup changes it for your whole store, including popups that are already live.

What shoppers see

When a shopper taps the button, their phone opens your contact card so they can save it. On a computer, the browser downloads the card as a .vcf file instead, so Tap-To-Contact works best on mobile.

💡Tip: Lia, Alia's built-in AI assistant, can add the button for you. For example, ask Lia to "add a button to my reward step that shows my contact card." See Getting started with Lia.

Best practices for Tap-To-Contact

  • Use your SMS sending number: Shoppers save the number on the card, so it needs to match the number your texts come from.

  • Keep the name short: Use the name shoppers know, such as "Alia" instead of "Alia Software Inc."

  • Upload a clear logo: A square logo looks best as a contact photo.

  • Test on a phone: Preview your popup on a real phone and tap the button to check the card before you publish.

Tap-To-Contact FAQ

Shoppers tap the button, but nothing happens. What should I check?

Check these in order:

  • The button's action is Show contact card.

  • No Open URL action with Open in new tab comes before it. Actions after that one don't run, and the editor shows a warning.

  • You're testing on a phone. On a computer, the card downloads as a file instead of opening.

Can I see how many shoppers saved my contact card?

Alia can't tell whether a shopper saved the contact on their phone. To count how many shoppers tap the button, add a Track click action to it with a label such as "Contact card."

Can I use a different contact card for each popup?

No. Your store has one contact card, and every Tap-To-Contact button uses it.

Is this the same as sending a contact card by text?

No. Tap-To-Contact saves the card from your popup. To also send your contact card by text, add it to the welcome flow in your SMS provider.
