An SMS-only popup asks for a phone number from visitors who already signed up for email but haven't given you their phone number yet. It gives you a second chance with visitors who left before your SMS step.
You build it as its own campaign, then target it at your email subscribers who aren't SMS subscribers. How you set the targeting depends on which tools you use for email and SMS.
Before you start
Create a separate campaign for your SMS-only popup.
In the campaign's targeting, remove the In targeting rule or campaign: New visitors condition that new campaigns start with. It excludes everyone who has signed up through Alia, which is the audience this popup is for.
Build the popup
In the popup editor, make the first step a form that asks for email.
Make the next step a form that asks for a phone number, with a clear offer, such as "Enter your phone number for 15% off."
Keep the email step short and the rest of your copy focused on the SMS offer. Returning subscribers enter the email they already used, so Klaviyo adds their phone number to their existing profile. If you want to ask for only a phone number, see Can I ask for only a phone number? first.
đĄTip: Already have a popup that asks for email and phone? Duplicate it into your new campaign, then ask Lia, Alia's built-in AI assistant, to rewrite the copy around your SMS offer. See Getting started with Lia.
Space it out from your other popups
Many visitors who match your SMS-only campaign have recently seen your main signup popup, so give them a break between the two.
In the popup editor, open the Triggers tab.
Turn on Don't trigger if another popup viewed in last...
Set it to 1 or 2 days.
Set the targeting
Follow the section that matches the tools you use for email and SMS.
Klaviyo for email and SMS
In Klaviyo, go to Audience â Lists & segments â Create â Segment.
Add the condition
Has subscribed to email marketing at least once over all time.Add the condition
Has subscribed to SMS marketing zero times over all time, then save the segment.
In Alia, go to Campaigns and select Targeting on your SMS-only campaign.
Select Select a filter â In Klaviyo segment, then choose the segment you created.
Make sure this is the only condition, then select Save.
đĄNote: If your popup targets a Klaviyo list or segment and collects only a phone number, Klaviyo may create a separate, phone-only profile for that shopper. Targeting tells Alia whether a visitor is in the segment, but not their email address. To avoid this, collect email too, or target visitors who already signed up through an Alia email popup.

Add Has not completed action â SMS sign up, counted In this session or a previous session.

FAQ
Can I ask for only a phone number?
Yes, if your popup only targets visitors who have completed an Alia email signup, as in Other email and SMS tools. Alia already has their email from that signup and sends it to Klaviyo with their phone number. If you target a Klaviyo list or segment, keep the email step, since Alia doesn't receive email addresses from Klaviyo.
Why are fewer visitors seeing my SMS-only popup than I expected?
Klaviyo can only tell Alia whether a visitor is in a segment if it has recognized them in that browser, for example after they clicked one of your Klaviyo emails. Visitors it doesn't recognize follow the condition's default, which is Default to not in segment. Combining the segment with a saved targeting rule using OR also reaches visitors who signed up through Alia.
Why do I see 2 Klaviyo profiles for the same shopper?
This happens when a popup collects only a phone number from someone whose email Alia doesn't have. See Understanding the Alia and Klaviyo Integration: Synced Properties for how to prevent and merge duplicates.
