Smart Trigger is an extra trigger that opens your popup when a visitor is most likely to engage. It uses a predictive model that learns from your store's visitors, based on signals such as time on page, scroll depth, pages viewed, and items in cart. Use it alongside a basic trigger, such as a time delay, to reach visitors your basic trigger misses.
Before you start
Smart Trigger runs on mobile only by default. You can change this in its settings.
Keep at least one basic trigger on your popup. If Smart Trigger is your only trigger, your popup only shows when Smart Trigger fires.
Turn on Smart Trigger
In Alia, go to Campaigns and open your popup in the popup editor.
In the right sidebar, select the Triggers tab and find the Smart Trigger off card.
Turn on the toggle. The card changes to Smart Trigger on.
Select Publish.
š”Tip: Ask Lia to turn on Smart Trigger for you, for example: "Turn on Smart Trigger for this popup." Review and apply Lia's change, then select Publish.
Change Smart Trigger settings
Next to the Smart Trigger toggle, select the settings icon.
Choose which devices Smart Trigger runs on: All devices, Mobile only, or Desktop only.
Optional: under Open step, choose which step of your popup Smart Trigger opens.
Select Publish.
How Smart Trigger works with your other triggers
Smart Trigger opens your popup once, in addition to any basic triggers. A visitor who closed your popup earlier can see it once more from Smart Trigger.
If you use If closed, trigger popup again after..., Smart Trigger can open your popup again once that wait has passed.
Smart Trigger waits a short time after another popup was shown before it's likely to fire.
Smart Trigger follows your campaign's targeting rules. Alia checks targeting again just before it opens the popup.
š”Note: Smart Trigger ignores your time delay, so it can open your popup before the delay has passed. If your popup must never appear before a set time, turn off Smart Trigger.

Measure the results
To see how Smart Trigger performs on your store, run an A/B test with Smart Trigger on in one variant and off in the other, then compare signup rates. See Setting Up A/B Tests in Alia. Smart Testing can also add Smart Trigger to your popup as one of its tests.
FAQ
Why isn't Smart Trigger firing on desktop?
Smart Trigger runs on mobile only by default. To change this, open its settings and choose All devices or Desktop only. Alia treats any browser window narrower than 1024 pixels as mobile.
I didn't turn on Smart Trigger. Why is it on?
Smart Testing can add Smart Trigger to your popup as one of its tests. To stop it, turn off Smart Trigger on the popup and select Publish.
Can Smart Trigger show different content?
You can choose which step of your popup Smart Trigger opens under Open step, including a floating button. The content of each step is the same as in your popup, so to show something different, add a step for it.
Does Smart Trigger work without a basic trigger?
Yes, but your popup then only shows when Smart Trigger fires. Most stores pair it with a time delay trigger.
