Subscribers get 2 welcome emails after signing up

One signup, 2 welcome emails? Your Alia and Klaviyo Shopify integrations are likely sending subscribers to different lists.

Written by Rob D

If a subscriber signs up once through your Alia popup but gets 2 different welcome emails, your Alia integration and Klaviyo's Shopify integration are likely sending them to different lists.

Issue

A subscriber signs up once through your Alia popup and gets 2 different welcome emails:

  • One from the list your Alia integration uses, which is expected.

  • One from a list they never joined on purpose. This list may show Alia-sourced profiles even though Alia isn't connected to it.

Environment

  • Klaviyo, with both the Alia integration and Klaviyo's Shopify integration connected.

  • Welcome flows attached to more than one Klaviyo list.

Resolution

Point both integrations to the same list

This is the most common fix.

  1. In Klaviyo, go to Integrations → Shopify → From Shopify.

  2. Note which list is selected.

  3. In Alia, open your popup's Integration settings, or go to Integrations → Edit for your default lists.

  4. Note which list Alia sends subscribers to.

  5. Set both integrations to the same list.

Subscribers are now added to one list and get one welcome email.

Keep the lists separate and adjust your flows

If you need separate lists for segmentation, update one welcome flow so it excludes subscribers who came in through the other list.

  1. In Klaviyo, open the second welcome flow.

  2. Edit its flow filters or trigger conditions.

  3. Add a condition that excludes profiles with the Alia source tag.

  4. Save the flow.

Cause

Alia sends new subscribers to the list selected in your Alia integration settings. Klaviyo's Shopify integration has its own list setting for customers created in Shopify.

If those 2 settings point to different lists, and each list has its own welcome flow, one signup lands on both lists and triggers both flows.

💡 Tip: Whenever you change your Shopify-to-Klaviyo list mapping, check it against the list in your Alia integration settings so the 2 stay in sync.

Still stuck?

If both integrations point to the same list and subscribers still get duplicate emails, contact support and include:

  • The list names and flow IDs involved.

  • A screenshot of the list setting in Klaviyo's Shopify integration.

  • Manager access to Klaviyo, if you're comfortable sharing it, so we can check your flow filters.
